Reader: Denver Hospitals are NOT equipped to handle Ebola patients

This message was posted on the wall of FOX 31’s Facebook page. The reader is the spouse of a Denver ER nurse and he has some concerns with the way the Ebola situation is being handled in Denver hospitals.

Read his post below:

Significant other of a level 1 ER nurse in Denver here. Denver Hospitals are NOT equipped to handle Ebola patients. You reported saying they may face the very real possibility of a patient with the virus walking through our hospital doors, and that all the medical personnel are well prepared with all the proper gear. They are not, I assure you. I will not stand by while some hospitals outfit their staff with multiple layered hazmat suits, and our Denver nurses get an open back smock. Please. Stand up with me and fight for our healthcare workers to be outfitted with the same gear as everyone else. This is your health too! Investigate! Ask questions! Find out WHY the hospital heads are lying by saying they are all prepared. Everyone who MAY have to come into contact with a possible ebola patient MUST have the SAME gear. These two nurses in Dallas may have gotten the virus BECAUSE they did not have the proper gear, not because they didn’t follow protocol. Please, again, help me protect my love and all of our Denver area healthcare workers! Everyone should be getting the same gear! Different gear means different protocol means errors means contraction. This is not right. I beg of you. Help.

Jeff Danby just Google nurses speak out on ebola and you will get plenty of articles on the nurses telling the truth about the flimsy personal protective equipment (PPE) they had to use at that hospital. I'm a nurse here in Denver and I know where I work we only have exactly the same as that hospital in Dallas. So no fear mongering. You HAVE to care for your patient. You all can speak about fear mongering and have a laugh or an opinion but the dam truth is we nurses will be faced with that patient assignment and the knowledge that your PPE is NOT going to protect us and it's not a dam joke or an opinion. It will be our dam reality and our lives and our families. We DO need to ensure the health and safety of the nurses and health care workers/first responders in our city. After all. Who else is going to be willing to clean up your infected vomit and diarrhea? Or perhaps that is a joke as well.

Here we go with all the idiots posting their professional opinions, and they probably work as a cashier at burger king! haha

Being a healthcare worker, I feel we have the knowledge and equiptment to protect ourselves if it should end up here. The biggest problem is that we havent seen it here, ever, so like in Dallas things could be missed initially. 3 ppl have been dignosised, not 300 or 3000. There is a lot of fear mongering happening in the media. We should focus on preparing, education, and facts.

Im not surprised, this state is more prepared for a mass shooting than anything. All I will do if I feel i got ebola, im going to quarantine myself and call 911 so I wont expose the public.

3 out of 319 million people have contracted it, so how does that work in to your thinking. Not saying we shouldn't protect our hospital staff, but the media is going overboard on this. Maybe you should go roll around in a toxic waste dump.......lol.

To be honest, WHY are we bothering helping Africa? These people have advanced microscopically over the past 2,000 years. We've POURED billions into Africa. Those on the left want us to stay out of the middle east, so why can't we apply the same logic here?

Fear mongering. Ebola has average 70% mortality rate...last outbreak killed 30 people. There is no cure---and its on record mutating over 330 times since the original outbreak 8 months ago---there is the possibility of it going airborne. This was the same station that said it was impossible for it to arrive in America. (Wrong, again.) If 1000 people get sick in the U.S., even though it does not spread like the flu, its mortality rate is much higher---this will have an effect on the economy. The DOW dropped 400 points with the news of another healthcare worker getting sick. Maybe you should volunteer at the hospital with no gear on lol

They should all quit their jobs now, just to be safe. Oh, and we should all stop going to work or school or to the grocery store or outside. We should all barricade ourselves in our homes. Shutdown all forms of transportation. Oh hell. Let's just end it now and get it over with! I'm gonna keep on living my life, while the rest of you curl up in a corner and s**t your pants. :P

Wait where is his proof? this sounds like an opinion piece rather than a news story. Do I take his word because he said he assures me, because his wife/girl friend is a ER nurse? Dive a little more into this for me. How did you find this out? Where did you see it? How do you know this it inadequate? What is his credibility in this matter? Letting a reader write a story on Ebola is like giving me the keys to the space shuttle. Don't get me wrong I'm all for our Hospitals being prepared but I know there is more to this story.
