These 6 Sandy Beaches In Colorado Are Pure Paradise In The Summer

Not only do we have the beautiful Rocky Mountains to explore. We also have some amazing shorelines you must see for yourself.

Ridgway State Park

28555 US-550, Ridgway, CO 81432

15 miles south of Montrose on Highway 50, offers a large sandy beach located in a protected cove so the water stays calm and warms up nicely. There’s playground equipment nearby, so it’s great for kids — and a volleyball net is always ready for some adult or family action.

Boulder Reservoir

1776 6th St
Boulder, CO

Jackson Lake State Park

26363 Country Road 3, Orchard, CO 80649

Jackson Lake is ranked one of the “Top 15 Park Beaches” by Reserve America. Anglers, boaters, or naturalists realizing there’s too much fun for just one day enjoy the variety of water or land based recreational facilities found here.

Grand Lake

1026 Park Avenue
Grand Lake, CO 80447

At the western edge of Rocky Mountain National Park sits the historic town of Grand Lake, Colorado. It is a town where one steps back into time, where the store owners proudly manage their businesses, and greet visitors every day from their western boardwalk storefronts.

Chatfield State Park

11500 Roxborough Park Rd, Littleton, CO 80125

Float your boat in the lake, bicycle or hike on a trail that provides scenic views of the neighboring foothills and Platte River valley,  camp, ride a horse and even fly a model airplane – all at Chatfield State Park, nestled next to the foothills southwest of Denver.

Blue Mesa Reservoir

Blue Mesa Reservoir is one of Colorado’s must see destinations. It is located in Western Colorado near the town of Gunnison. Blue Mesa is Colorado’s largest lake being twenty miles long with 96 miles of shoreline.

Theres no way I'd set foot in those lakes because they allow motorized vehicles in them. Don't wanna swim in oil and gasoline poluted waters thx anyway.

Now that it's advertised these "sandy" beaches will be overcrowded with all of the new people that are here. Have fun stepping in rocks and please keep advertising our famous comfortable beaches and nice warm water.

Notice no people in Blue Mesa, they would be icicles. Great to have a beach but getting in the water is nice too.

We like going there because it's a big lake and doesn't get as crowded as places like cherry creek.

there is a reservoir out east of LaJunta on the plains that is called John Martin. On the south side is nothing but Sandy beaches for miles if the reservoir is not too low.   the beach is over 100 yards wide and stretches for probably 7-8 miles.  But, the last time I was there, our stupid government in all its wisdom, had it closed because of some endangered tick or something.  Actually, i think it was a bird that nested in part of the south shore.   An endangered bird that numbers in the hundreds of thousands and is as populated now as it ever was.   Makes no sense. I think some of the south shore beach is still open, just not the best part.

the only nice beaches around Colorado are at Lake McConaughy in Nebraska, just across the border via HWY76 to i80.

Go and stay there then Stella Dubach. You are the type that give us natives a bad rep.

I can smell the e-coli from here. Are these pictures before or after they clear the beach because of floating Pampers. Huntington Beach or the OC. please.

"Pure Paradise" is just slighty hyperbolic, don't you think? I mean these "beaches" are cool by Colorado standards, as the views from them are nice. But the water is usually still pretty cold and the sand is often quite rough to walk on. But I guess since we don't have an ocean, it is better than nothing! :-)
