In honor of Throwback Thursday we found these rare videos of Stapleton International Airport. Stapleton International Airport was Denver, Colorado’s primary airport from 1929 to 1995. At different times it served as a hub for Continental Airlines, Frontier Airlines,People Express, TWA, United Airlines and Western Airlines. In 1995, Stapleton was replaced by Denver International Airport. It has now been decommissioned and the airport property was redeveloped as a retail and residential neighborhood.
That was the place i took my first flight out of to see my Grandparents Back east. It was such a thrill. I wish it was still there. Going to the other airport is a drive.
I remember going over by the jail to watch planes land. I know DIA gets some hate but let's all be honest... Stapleton was old n tired.
Landings at Stapleton were always adventurous. The crazy wind off the mountains made for some crazy landings.
Loved that airport and loved working there too!!! Used to drive onto Smith road to watch the airplanes land. So cool!!
My gran used to take me up on the observation deck at the end of one of the concourses. We were plane spotters when i was 5ish lol
Best time ever was paying 10 cents to go up to the observation deck and watch planes land and take off!!! AWSOME!!!!! MISS IT!!!!
Made me sad to watch the closing video.....I made a lot of great memories working my first job at the ice cream store when I was 14....."Roger's Top Cone".....met a lot of great people and served ice cream to local celebriites.......fun times!!
