You Can Smile for your Drivers License again

Back in 2016, the State of Colorado decided that we should no longer smile for our ID cards, including our Driver’s Licenses.  We were told that facial recognition systems had a tough time recognizing us if we had a big toothed smile going on, so we’ve all had a case of RBF (Resting Bitch Face) when it comes to our ID’s for the past 6 years.  Technology must be advancing because things are changing…  now you can smile again when renewal time comes around.

Back in March, the DMV quietly started allowing people to smile again, through a testing program, and apparently the facial recognition systems still work, so they are expanded smiling to the rest of the state.  If you are still happy with your current picture, you can renew your license online, and continue to use that photo, as long as it hasn’t been too long.  According to the Real ID act, which maintains standards for IDs across America, everyone must get a new picture every 10 years.   If you don’t like your photo, or it’s been a whole decade, you can get a fresh picture taken at your favorite DMV location.  With or without a Smile.  It’s up to you.
