Paul Reubens, beloved actor and comedian has died at 70. News broke on Reubens Instagram page earlier today.
“Paul bravely and privately fought cancer for years with his trademark tenacity and wit. A gifted and prolific talent, he will forever live in the comedy pantheon and in our hearts as a treasured friend and man of remarkable character and generosity of spirit.”
According to Variety, Reuben “began his career in the 1970s after joining the Los Angeles live comedy troupe the Groundlings as an improvisational comedian and stage actor.” In 1980 the “The Pee-wee Herman Show” hit the stage selling out for five consecutive months.
While Reuben went through his cancer battle quietly for six years, his last post was constructed before his passing.
“I have loved you all so much and enjoyed making art for you,” he says.
So far, there’s no word on what type of cancer he had, the story is developing.
