John Elway’s iconic Cherry Creek steakhouse, the first of its kind, is set to close its doors at the end of this month. However, fans of the legendary quarterback and his restaurants have reason to be optimistic—three other Elway’s locations will remain open, and there’s even a possibility that Cherry Creek could see a return of the steakhouse in the future.

“After 20 years, John Elway and partner Tim Schmidt have decided to close the Cherry Creek Steakhouse on August 31, 2024,” the restaurant announced on its website. The closure is due to the ongoing construction project at Cherry Creek Mall, which has made it necessary to shut down the beloved establishment.

The announcement hinted at the potential for a comeback, stating, “We plan to work with our development partners to explore a post-construction location.” The message also expressed gratitude to the community, noting, “We have been honored to be your dining choice for special events and family celebrations. We hope to see you this month to thank you personally.”

Elway, known for leading the Denver Broncos to two Super Bowl victories as a quarterback and later building a championship-winning roster as an executive, still has steakhouse locations in Vail, at The Ritz-Carlton in Denver, and at Denver International Airport. While the original Cherry Creek location will soon be a memory, there’s hope that it may return after the mall’s construction is complete.

For those with a special place in their heart for the original Elway’s, now is the time to make a final visit before the August 31 closure.
