Aurora Police Release Video of Teens Allegedly Firing at Officers During High-Speed Chase

Aurora, Colo. — The Aurora Police Department has released body-worn camera footage showing a high-speed chase in which four teenagers allegedly fired more than 20 rounds at pursuing officers. Thankfully, no officers were injured in the incident.

The suspects, all between the ages of 15 and 16, were arrested following the August 8th chase, which concluded in the 1700 block of Cathay Court. Each teen now faces two counts of attempted first-degree murder of a peace officer, along with other serious charges.

The incident began around 8 p.m. on August 8th, when a 911 caller reported their Kia Sportage had been stolen from a garage in the 24200 block of East Mexico Avenue. About an hour later, Aurora police officers in an unmarked vehicle located the stolen Kia near 17th Avenue and Trenton Street in Denver.

As officers tracked the vehicle to 21st Avenue and Ulster Street, the suspects inside the Kia opened fire on the police. Despite at least one bullet striking the police vehicle, both officers inside were unharmed. Additionally, two other nearby cars were hit, though both were unoccupied at the time.

Aurora police, with assistance from Denver police officers, pursued the stolen vehicle across several areas in the north metro Denver region. Over 20 shell casings were recovered from three separate scenes, all believed to have been fired by the suspects. Police also recovered multiple firearms from the suspects.

In addition to attempted murder charges, the teens are facing charges of aggravated motor vehicle theft and second-degree burglary.
