A grieving pet owner is sharing his story after a tragic incident where a dog jumped out of a moving car and attacked and killed his beloved pet over the weekend.

Curtis Kameyama and his dog, Harley, had been walking the same neighborhood path for years, often passing by the local King Soopers before heading back home. Harley, known and loved by many in the community, would even accompany Kameyama into the store, riding in the cart during their daily routine.

Last Sunday, as Kameyama and Harley were walking near the King Soopers on Ken Caryl Avenue in Littleton, the peaceful evening took a horrifying turn. Kameyama recalls hearing a dog barking from inside a moving vehicle. Suddenly, the dog leaped out of the car and viciously attacked Harley.

Eyewitness Anna Allen described the scene as something she couldn’t believe, saying, “It was so vicious and just terrible. You wouldn’t wish that for anybody.”

After the attack, the owner of the attacking dog pulled over and retrieved her pet. Allen helped Kameyama by getting the owner’s identification while he desperately tried to comfort Harley and rushed him to a vet. Unfortunately, despite his efforts, Harley did not survive the attack.

Kameyama reported the incident to Jefferson County Animal Control, hoping to prevent a similar tragedy from happening to another pet. However, due to the lack of previous incidents with the attacking dog, authorities informed Kameyama that they could only issue a warning, citation, and court summons to the dog’s owner.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office has attempted to contact the owner of the attacking
