How Does Denver Compare to the ‘Rudest’ Cities in the U.S.?

When it comes to America’s least friendly cities, Denver might not be top of mind—and according to a recent survey by Preply.com, that’s for good reason! While Miami, Florida took the top spot as the rudest city in the U.S. with a score of 9.88 out of 10, Denver ranked much lower on the rudeness scale, coming in at No. 34 with a score of 7.3 out of 10. So, how does Denver stack up, and did we make the dreaded rude list?

The survey measured behaviors like public awareness, loudness in shared spaces, and treatment of service staff across 46 of America’s largest cities. Miami was called out for speakerphone use in public, ignoring others, and general inconsideration, earning it the top (or bottom) spot.

Here’s how the top 10 rudest cities ranked:

  1. Miami, Florida – 9.88
  2. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – 9.12
  3. Tampa, Florida – 8.88
  4. Louisville, Kentucky – 8.72
  5. Oakland, California – 8.67
  6. Boston, Massachusetts – 8.35
  7. Memphis, Tennessee – 8.28
  8. Las Vegas, Nevada – 8.21
  9. Long Beach, California – 8.18
  10. Charlotte, North Carolina – 8.11

Luckily for Denverites, our Mile High City is far from the top of the list, suggesting that while we’re not perfect, we tend to keep things friendly. Denver placed 34th out of 46, showing that Coloradans have some manners.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, here are the 10 least rude cities:

  1. Omaha, Nebraska – 6.24
  2. Minneapolis, Minnesota – 6.35
  3. San Diego, California – 6.68
  4. Columbus, Ohio – 6.70
  5. Kansas City, Missouri – 6.78
  6. Milwaukee, Wisconsin – 6.89
  7. Indianapolis, Indiana – 6.93
  8. San Jose, California – 6.96
  9. Raleigh, North Carolina – 6.98
  10. Oklahoma City, Oklahoma – 7.11

While Denver didn’t quite make the “nicest” list, it’s far from the rudest. So, if you’re visiting or moving to the Mile High City, you can expect generally polite interactions—just avoid those public speakerphone calls!
