Denver’s Defense Shines as Bo Nix Adjusts to the NFL

The Denver Broncos’ defense has become the backbone of the team as rookie quarterback Bo Nix gradually finds his footing. Despite challenges, the defense has performed exceptionally, holding Aaron Rodgers to zero touchdown passes in their recent 10-9 victory at the Meadowlands. This marks only the sixth time in Rodgers’ career that he was held without a touchdown pass in a game where he played every offensive snap.

The Broncos’ defense sacked Rodgers five times, a feat not easily achieved against the four-time MVP. Denver’s defense, led by Vance Joseph, has allowed just one touchdown and three field goals in their last two road games, evening their record at 2-2 after a tough Eastern road trip.

“Our defense played amazing,” Nix remarked, after throwing for 60 yards and recording his first career touchdown pass. Despite the offensive struggles, the defense continues to keep the team competitive.

Playing without their defensive captain, Alex Singleton, who suffered a season-ending ACL injury the previous week, Denver’s defense held strong. Inside linebacker Justin Strnad stepped up in Singleton’s absence, registering his first career sack on the game’s opening snap.

Notably, the Broncos shut down Jets’ star running back Breece Hall, holding him to just 4 yards on 10 carries—an incredible turnaround from last year, when Hall ran for 177 yards against them.

Nix emphasized the importance of the defense’s performance: “They’re going to continue to give us the ball back. Now, we’ve got to find ways to score, more than just a few points.”

As the team heads into a stretch of home games, Denver’s defense continues to be the bright spot, allowing just a 28.3% third-down conversion rate, one of the best in the league. With the defense firing on all cylinders, the Broncos will need their offense to step up if they hope to make a playoff push.
