Trump’s Aurora Stop Sparks Backlash—Is It All About Promoting Misinformation?

Former President Donald Trump is set to arrive in Aurora tomorrow after a delay following his September rally in New York. He will speak at the Gaylord Rockies Resort and Convention Center on Friday, Oct. 11, with the event starting at 1 p.m. and doors opening at 10 a.m. Ticket registration is limited to two per mobile number.

Trump initially mentioned his plans for this visit during a Sept. 18 rally in Uniondale, New York, where he also promised a stop in Springfield, Ohio. While details for Ohio remain unclear, the Aurora visit is now confirmed. During his Uniondale rally, Trump stirred controversy by addressing immigration issues, vowing to tackle what he described as the “seizures” of American cities by migrants.

Aurora officials, including the Aurora Police Department, are preparing for Trump’s appearance, coordinating with other agencies to ensure event security. Local authorities have voiced concerns about Trump’s immigration rhetoric, which they argue is rife with misinformation. Trump has made repeated claims about migrant gangs overtaking cities like Aurora, despite reports showing that local crime rates have actually decreased in recent years.

Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman, alongside law enforcement, has actively worked to counter some of Trump’s more incendiary claims, including his comments about a Venezuelan prison gang, which have not been substantiated in connection to any activity in Aurora. The Aurora Police Department is continuing its investigations in the area through “Operation Safe Haven.”

As Trump’s visit draws closer, it is expected to ignite further discussions around immigration and public safety in the Denver metro area.
