Man with Auto Theft Convictions Caught Driving Stolen Car to Probation Meeting

Sometimes, old habits really do die hard.

On Thursday, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office shared an unusual story about a man with a long history of auto theft who seemingly hasn’t learned his lesson.

The man, who already had three previous stolen car convictions, casually walked into the Jeffco Courthouse for a meeting with his probation officer after pleading guilty to yet another motor vehicle theft charge. However, deputies soon realized something was off.

After checking security cameras in the courthouse parking lot, deputies discovered that the man had allegedly driven a stolen car to his probation hearing. When the meeting was over, deputies were waiting for him as he exited the elevator. The man initially tried to deny the accusations, claiming he borrowed the car from a “friend,” but later admitted to the truth.

A deputy was even heard on body camera footage advising the man, “You shouldn’t trust your friends anymore.”

The Sheriff’s Office humorously added on their X account: “He may have arrived in the stolen car… but he left in one of ours.”
