Thornton Man’s Car Stolen While Recovering From Emergency Surgery

Friends and family are rallying around Rich Armas, a Thornton father of two, after his car was stolen while he was hospitalized for emergency surgery. Armas, a dedicated baseball coach and beloved community member, was rushed to the hospital two weeks ago with severe abdominal pain. Doctors discovered a large abscess and performed surgery to remove it along with a portion of his intestinal tract.

While Armas was undergoing treatment, his Kia was stolen from outside his grandparents’ house. The loss came as a devastating blow to his family and close-knit group of friends, who describe Armas as “a really good dad” and a generous person. “It’s like the proverbial punch in the gut,” said longtime friend Joshua Abeyta. “When one of us takes a loss, we all feel it.”

Armas’ family has filed a police report in Thornton, and his friends have launched a fundraising campaign to help him recover from the financial and emotional toll. So far, they’ve raised about $600 but are hoping to do more. Armas remains in the hospital, facing another surgery, but is said to be in good spirits despite the challenges.
