Porch Pirate Strikes in Denver: $250 Package Stolen Amid Holiday Delivery Surge

As holiday shopping ramps up, so does the threat of porch piracy. Denver resident Vivek Khemka became a victim of this crime when his $250 package was stolen right off his porch while he was out of town last weekend.

Khemka received a notification that his package—a dashcam—had been delivered, but upon returning home, it was nowhere to be found. Checking his security camera footage, he watched as a thief arrived on an expensive electric bike, casually walked up to his porch, grabbed the package, and rode off.

“It’s ironic, really—it was a dashcam meant to prevent theft or record incidents like this,” Khemka said. Living in the neighborhood for a year and a half, he never expected to experience such an incident.

Denver police recommend preventive measures like requiring a signature for delivery, shipping packages to workplaces, or using local hold-for-pickup options. Khemka plans to adjust his delivery preferences but notes that while the package can be replaced, the sense of security in his neighborhood has been shaken.

He has filed a police report and hopes someone will recognize the thief from the footage. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Denver Police Department.
