Baby Jesus Figurine Stolen from Colorado Nativity Scene Returned with Apology

A baby Jesus figurine stolen from a public nativity scene in downtown Fort Collins was returned just in time for Christmas, accompanied by an anonymous apology.

The figurine, which had been taken early Sunday, was left at a local fire station on Thursday. Alongside the statue was a handwritten note that read:
“I’m really sorry. I made a dumb mistake in the moment. It won’t happen again.”

Public Appeal Prompts Return

The return came just two days after Fort Collins police shared surveillance footage of the theft on social media. The video showed a suspect, believed to be a teenager or young adult, taking the figurine from the display in the early hours. The publicity surrounding the incident may have prompted the individual to reconsider their actions.

Anonymous Return

The figurine was dropped off at a fire station equipped with a motion-sensing door camera, but the camera did not activate when the item was returned, leaving the identity of the person unknown. Police said no additional details about the suspect are available.

A Forgiving Gesture

The local business responsible for maintaining the nativity scene has decided not to pursue charges. With the figurine back in its rightful place, the focus has shifted to the spirit of forgiveness and the importance of community during the holiday season.

The incident serves as a reminder of the power of accountability and second chances, ensuring the nativity scene can once again bring joy to Fort Collins residents this Christmas.
