Colorado Snowplows End Police Chase by Blocking Fleeing Suspect on I-70

In an unexpected twist on Interstate 70, snowplow drivers from the Colorado Department of Transportation played a pivotal role in halting a police pursuit on Thursday night. The chase, involving 27-year-old Denver resident Brendan Fooks, came to an end after a well-timed blockade by snowplows near Floyd Hill, according to 9NEWS.

The incident began around 11:30 p.m. when Idaho Springs Police attempted to stop Fooks, who was driving a black Hyundai Accent with a broken taillight. Despite officers’ efforts to use stop sticks and a tactical rolling roadblock, Fooks continued to evade capture. However, the snowplows, typically tasked with clearing the roads in wintry conditions, unwittingly became part of the law enforcement strategy. The snowplows formed a barrier, trapping Fooks and bringing the high-speed chase to a sudden halt.

A video shared by the Idaho Springs Police Department on Facebook showed the dramatic moment when the snowplows successfully blocked the suspect’s vehicle, stopping him. Earlier, the pursuit had turned more dangerous when Fooks swerved to avoid a law enforcement maneuver, striking a Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office vehicle and causing minor damage.

Fooks, who was linked to a stolen vehicle and a strong-arm robbery in Lakewood on New Year’s Eve, faced multiple charges. In addition to the charges related to the police chase, he was arrested for two unrelated warrants, as confirmed by KDVR.
