Colorado Ranked Among the Best States for Raising a Family in 2025

Colorado is considered one of the top states for raising a family, according to a new report from WalletHub. The personal finance website analyzed all 50 states across five key categories to determine which offer the best environment for family life in 2025. These categories included family fun, health and safety, education and childcare, affordability, and socioeconomics.

The report compared states based on 50 family-friendly metrics, such as median family income, housing affordability, healthcare quality, crime rates, school quality, and more. WalletHub’s findings suggest that while certain states offer better conditions for family life, Colorado stands out as one of the best options for raising a family.

Colorado Ranks 11th in the Nation

According to WalletHub’s rankings, Colorado is the 11th best state to raise a family in 2025. The Centennial State shines in several categories, including family fun and affordability, where it ranks 6th in both. However, Colorado’s performance varies across other areas, ranking 23rd in socioeconomics, 32nd in education and childcare, and 37th in health and safety.

WalletHub’s Top 10 Best States to Raise a Family in 2025:

  1. Massachusetts
  2. Minnesota
  3. North Dakota
  4. Nebraska
  5. New Hampshire
  6. New York
  7. Illinois
  8. Wisconsin
  9. Maine
  10. Connecticut
  11. Colorado

Strong Financial Indicators

Colorado excels in key financial aspects that are vital for families, particularly when it comes to income and poverty levels. The state ranks 5th for the highest median family income and 5th for the lowest percentage of families living in poverty. These factors make Colorado an attractive choice for families seeking financial stability.

Despite its lower rankings in education and safety, Colorado remains a top choice for families, thanks to its strong economy, affordable living options, and the variety of recreational opportunities it offers. The state’s blend of economic advantages, family-friendly amenities, and outdoor activities makes it a great place to raise children in 2025.
