Snow, Rain, and Road Impacts: What Denver Can Expect from Upcoming Storm

After a stretch of warm weather in the 60s, Denver is set for a dramatic shift as a winter storm system moves in early this week, prompting a Pinpoint Weather Alert Day for Tuesday. Forecasters predict rain for the metro area beginning Monday afternoon or evening, with temperatures dropping enough overnight to bring a mix of rain and snow. Higher elevations, including the foothills and Palmer Divide, are expected to see more significant snowfall, while the mountains will likely experience heavy accumulation throughout the storm.

Meteorologists remain uncertain about snow accumulation in Denver, as the recent warm spell may cause rapid melting on the ground. However, Colder areas like Castle Rock and Monument Hill could face slush-covered roads and slick conditions during the Tuesday morning commute. In the high country, snow is more likely to stick, affecting travel through areas like Aspen, Eagle, Steamboat Springs, Craig, and Telluride.

Once the storm wraps up Tuesday afternoon, temperatures will remain cooler in the 40s, a sharp drop from the unseasonably warm 60s but typical for this time of year. Drivers should prepare for potential travel disruptions, especially in higher elevations, and stay updated as forecasters continue to track the storm’s development.
