Denver Drivers Frustrated by Aggressive Window Washers at Traffic Lights

Denver drivers are expressing growing frustration over aggressive window washers who approach vehicles at busy intersections, often refusing to take no for an answer. Many motorists report feeling pressured or even harassed as individuals attempt to wash windshields without consent. The trend has become particularly noticeable at intersections like Colorado Boulevard and Alameda Avenue, where drivers say they are suddenly greeted by soapy water splashing onto their windshields.

Some drivers, like Vanessa, say these encounters are becoming increasingly persistent. “They draw hearts on windows, act aggressive, and won’t take no for an answer. It’s kind of annoying,” she said. Others have reported that even after refusing the service, their windshields still get sprayed. A viewer video sent to FOX31 showed one such instance where a driver clearly declined but was ignored. “I feel like there’s a line being crossed,” Vanessa added.

Denver police confirm they have received multiple complaints about aggressive window washers and have issued some citations for aggressive panhandling in response. However, officers say enforcement can be challenging because citations often require a witness complaint, and many incidents go unreported or occur without an officer present. Authorities stress that while washing windows itself is not illegal, individuals can be cited for aggressive behavior or obstructing traffic.

Criminal defense attorney Chris Decker advises drivers to decline service through non-verbal cues, such as shaking their head, waving a hand, or using windshield wipers. However, he notes there is little legal recourse for drivers beyond reporting incidents. Meanwhile, the issue has affected local businesses, with one nearby gas station employee saying their location loses about five squeegees per week to window washers. Denver police encourage drivers to report aggressive encounters by calling 911 for emergencies or 720-913-2000 for non-emergency situations.
