Two Arrested in English Bulldog Puppy Theft, One Still Missing

The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office has arrested two suspects linked to the theft of two English bulldog puppies from Perfect Pets, a Centennial pet store. Jonathan Muniz, 32, was taken into custody in Denver on February 28 after investigators tracked him down at a residence. Authorities say Muniz was caught on surveillance footage stealing the puppies from their enclosure on February 21. In a clumsy attempt to flee, he tripped and dropped the puppies before quickly gathering them again and escaping in a gold Cadillac Escalade. Muniz now faces multiple charges, including robbery, theft, and animal cruelty.

A second suspect, 34-year-old Porfiria Tacorante, the registered owner of the getaway vehicle, turned herself in at the Arapahoe County Detention Facility on Wednesday. She has been charged with theft and conspiracy to commit theft. The arrests come after an extensive investigation, but despite law enforcement’s efforts, the second stolen bulldog puppy remains missing. Authorities continue to search for the dog, emphasizing the importance of public assistance in locating it.

The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information to step forward. Investigators believe there may be additional individuals involved in the crime and are continuing their search for more suspects. Those with any details are encouraged to contact Investigator Erik VanCleave at 720-874-7762 or email evancleave@arapahoegov.com. Officials remind the public that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court. Meanwhile, Perfect Pets is working closely with law enforcement and has increased security measures to prevent future thefts.
