Denver Demands Answers: Why Is Whataburger Avoiding the Mile High City?

Colorado is about to get yet another Whataburger, this time in the small town of Fountain. That’ll make it the ninth location in Southern Colorado—while Denver, the state’s largest city and culinary capital, still has zero. None. Not a single spicy ketchup-soaked fry in sight.

The frustration among Denverites is reaching its peak. Every time a new Whataburger location is announced in the state, it’s followed by disappointment and a familiar chorus: “Still not in Denver? Why not?” Residents aren’t trying to be haters—many would love a local spot to finally try the famed Texas chain without a multi-hour road trip. But with six locations already packed into Colorado Springs, one in Monument, and another coming to Pueblo, the Mile High City is feeling more than just left out—it’s feeling straight-up ghosted.

People here are tired of the tease. They see the headlines, get their hopes up, only to realize it’s “another one… not in Denver.” Some blame proximity to Texas, others wonder if Whataburger just doesn’t understand how badly the city wants in. Whatever the reason, the question still burns hotter than a griddle-fresh patty: What did Denver ever do to deserve this burger banishment?

Seriously, Whataburger—WHY?
