Mother Shot in Road Rage Attack With Three Kids in the Car: Suspect Still at Large

A Colorado mother is recovering from a terrifying road rage shooting that took place just before midnight on March 1 along I-76 near the Pecos Street exit. While driving with her three children, including her daughter in the front seat, the woman said an aggressive driver in a blue Volkswagen hatchback began tailing and swerving around her vehicle. After trying to distance herself, she suddenly heard what she thought were rocks hitting her truck—until she realized she’d been shot.

Three bullets hit the vehicle, with one shattering the driver’s door and striking her in the thigh, shattering her femur and breaking her hip. “My body went numb,” she recalled. Her daughter quickly called 911, and the woman was pulled from the car by first responders. Nearly a month later, she’s still on crutches with more surgeries ahead, physically and emotionally shaken. “I can’t even get in a vehicle and feel safe,” she said.

Despite the trauma, the mother is grateful her children were unharmed. “Glad it was me and not them,” she said. The Adams County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate but has little to go on and is urging anyone with information to come forward. The victim believes another driver may have witnessed the incident and could hold a vital clue.
