New DIA Store Turns Heads with Floor Made of 266,000 Pennies

Denver International Airport just got a little shinier with the opening of Bodega DEN, a new convenience shop located in the center of Concourse C. While the store offers the usual travel essentials—snacks, drinks, chargers, headphones, and neck pillows—what really has travelers talking is the floor: it’s completely covered in 266,000 pennies, totaling more than $2,000 in loose change embedded beneath visitors’ feet.

Opened at the end of February, Bodega DEN also embraces the airport’s quirky side with nods to its local lore, including a small gargoyle statue and pink alien plushies. The shop is designed for quick in-and-out purchases, but it’s hard not to stop and snap a photo of the copper-tiled floor before grabbing your gum or granola bar.

Though it might be one of the more unexpected design choices at DIA, it’s far from the oddest thing you’ll see—after all, this is the same airport where the lost and found once collected items like a massage table, a sledgehammer, and even a chameleon kit. For now, travelers can enjoy the sparkle of pennies underfoot as they power up for their next flight.
