2 Dead, 4 Injured After ‘Accidental’ Blaze at Assisted Living Home in Centennial

An early morning house fire at an assisted living facility in Centennial left two people dead and four others injured Thursday, marking a tragic incident that authorities have since ruled accidental.

South Metro Fire Rescue responded to the blaze around 2:30 a.m. at a single-family home located at 6610 S. Oneida Court. The home, which functioned as an assisted living residence for older adults, was engulfed in flames as emergency crews arrived. According to FOX31’s Jim Hooley, who reported from the scene, firefighters quickly began efforts to control the blaze and conduct search-and-rescue operations.

By 3:05 a.m., fire crews had managed to bring the fire under control and cleared the interior, confirming the electricity had been shut off to prevent further hazards. A total of six individuals were transported to local hospitals. Tragically, by 8 a.m., South Metro Fire Rescue confirmed that two of those individuals had died from their injuries. The condition of the remaining four has not yet been released.

Fire investigators later determined the blaze was caused by the improper disposal of smoking materials outside the residence—classifying the fire as accidental. The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office is assisting in the ongoing investigation. The incident highlights the importance of fire safety practices, especially in facilities that house vulnerable individuals.
