Teens Rescued from Pikes Peak After Overnight Stranding in Sudden Snowstorm

Four teenagers were rescued from Pikes Peak in the early morning hours on Friday after being caught off-guard by sudden and severe weather while descending from the summit. According to Teller County Search and Rescue, the group had reached the top of the iconic 14er on Thursday but failed to descend before a storm moved in. With limited gear and no preparation for the cold, snow, and reduced visibility, they quickly found themselves stranded.

The teens took shelter in a cave as conditions worsened and used a flashing headlamp to signal their location. A call for help went out shortly before midnight, prompting a late-night rescue operation by search and rescue teams navigating dangerous terrain and deteriorating weather. Thanks to their quick use of the headlamp, crews were able to locate them.

All four teens were safely escorted down and rescue teams cleared the mountain by 4 a.m. Officials emphasized that this close call serves as a reminder of how quickly Colorado’s high-altitude weather can change, and the importance of always being properly prepared with gear, clothing, and a plan when hiking or climbing the state’s peaks.
