Dog Survives 100-Foot Fall at Colorado National Monument, Rescued by Search Team

A terrifying moment turned into a miracle after a dog survived a more than 100-foot fall at the Colorado National Monument. While visiting the park, an out-of-town guest pulled over to admire the view with his dog. When he opened the car door, the excited pup darted out and sprinted toward a cliff, accidentally tumbling over the edge.

She landed on a rocky shelf far below, prompting a multi-agency rescue effort. Mesa County Search and Rescue responded and carefully climbed down to reach the dog before safely bringing her back to the top. Amazingly, the dog suffered only minor scrapes and bruises—no broken bones or internal injuries.

The relieved owner was reunited with his adventurous pet, and the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office praised the teamwork that made the rescue possible. “If dogs have nine lives like cats, she definitely used one,” they wrote. “We’re just thankful to have an incredible Search & Rescue team always ready to help.”
