Denver Cyclist Crashes Into Stopped Truck After Failing to Notice Emergency Vehicle Stop

A Denver cyclist learned the hard way about the importance of paying attention and keeping a safe distance after slamming into the back of a truck at the intersection of Speer Blvd and W. 11th Ave on March 29, 2025. The entire incident, caught on dashcam and shared by Reddit user /u/MySafeWordIsYeet, shows the cyclist trailing closely behind a pickup truck before colliding with it when the driver suddenly stopped to allow an approaching emergency vehicle to pass.

The truck was making a left turn from Speer onto 11th Ave and had just passed under the overpass when the driver noticed the emergency vehicle coming from a side street. Although the driver had a green light, he braked mid-intersection to yield. The cyclist, head down and pedaling hard, failed to notice the stop and had no time or space to react—resulting in a direct impact with the rear of the vehicle.

Fortunately, no one was injured, and both the cyclist’s bike and the truck escaped serious damage. The two exchanged a quick check-in and a handshake before going on their way. The video has since sparked discussion online about road-sharing responsibilities. While the truck’s turn lane technique was debated, most agreed the cyclist was at fault for following too closely and not paying attention.

The incident serves as a timely reminder—especially as spring temperatures draw more cyclists onto the roads—that everyone, whether on two wheels or four, must follow traffic laws, maintain safe distances, and stay alert to avoid potentially dangerous situations.
