Longmont Police Seek Suspect After $35K in Damage to Speed Camera

Longmont police are offering a $2,000 reward for information leading to the identification and arrest of a suspect accused of causing over $35,000 in damage to a city speed camera. The vandalism occurred in two separate incidents near the 2600 block of Mountain View Avenue, just west of Hover Street.

The first incident, caught on camera around 7:03 p.m. on March 14, shows a person on a bicycle approaching the speed camera. While the footage shows the camera shaking for nearly 30 seconds, officials said no damage was reported during that attempt. A second incident on March 24 at 10:37 p.m. shows a person on foot approaching and making contact with the same camera. It was after this event that the significant damage was discovered, though authorities have not disclosed specific details.

Police have not confirmed whether the same individual is responsible for both incidents and are asking for the public’s help in identifying the person or persons involved. Surveillance footage shows other drivers possibly pausing to observe the suspect during one of the incidents.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Detective Sgt. Tim Madigan at 303-651-8869 or email tim.madigan@longmontcolorado.gov, referencing case number 25-2705. Tipsters could be eligible for a $2,000 reward.
