Tivoli Brewing Company Officially Departs MSU Denver’s Auraria Campus

Tivoli Brewing Company has officially ended its run on Metropolitan State University of Denver’s Auraria Campus, closing a historic chapter for one of Colorado’s oldest breweries.

Originally established in the mid-to-late 1800s, Tivoli operated in the heart of the Auraria neighborhood until 1969, when it shuttered for the first time. In the 1980s, the building was repurposed as a student union for the shared Auraria Campus, but parts of the structure remained underutilized and outdated by 2010.

Tivoli Beer made its long-awaited return in 2012 after a 43-year absence. From 2015 to 2021, Tivoli Brewing Company played an active role on campus, supporting both community events and educational programming. Although brewing operations officially ceased in fall 2023, the tap house remained open as a gathering spot for students, faculty, and locals—until now.

On Tuesday, campus officials confirmed that Tivoli Brewing is “transitioning out of its campus location,” effectively ending the partnership. Visitors to the brewery’s website are now redirected to Outlaw Beer, signaling a new chapter for the brand.

Despite the departure, the Tivoli building will remain the student union for the Auraria Campus, which serves MSU Denver, the University of Colorado Denver, and the Community College of Denver. A campus spokesperson said leaders are actively exploring new partnership opportunities to fill the vacant space, with updates expected soon.
