Terrifying Moment as United Airlines Plane Engine Catches Fire Mid-Flight Over Colorado

A United Airlines flight was forced to make an emergency landing at Denver International Airport (DIA) on Sunday evening after one of its engines caught fire mid-flight, turning the cabin into a scene of panic and bright orange light.

According to FOX31’s Kasia Kerridge, the aircraft was en route from Denver to Edmonton, Alberta, when the incident occurred roughly 75 minutes after takeoff. The flight departed shortly after 7:00 p.m., but the situation escalated quickly when passengers reported seeing flames bursting from one of the engines.

Frightening video captured from inside the plane shows the entire cabin lit up in a fiery orange glow, with visible panic and confusion among passengers. Another angle from a window seat clearly shows a fireball shooting from the engine mid-air.

Despite the chaos, all 153 passengers and six crew members on board made it safely back to Denver. No injuries were reported, and United later provided another aircraft to continue the journey to Edmonton.

While the flight ended safely, the incident adds to a string of troubling aviation events in early 2025. Just days prior, six people — including a family from Spain and their pilot — were killed in a helicopter crash in New York’s Hudson River. In January, a devastating mid-air collision involving a U.S. Army Black Hawk and an American Airlines flight claimed 67 lives over the Potomac River. Days later, a Learjet crash in Philadelphia left seven dead and 24 injured.

Though Sunday’s United Airlines emergency landing ended without casualties, it underscores ongoing concerns about air travel safety in a year already marked by multiple aviation disasters.
