Aurora Residents Demand Action After Yet Another Vehicle Smashes Into Home

A recent crash in Aurora has reignited calls for better safety measures after a truck slammed into a home on South Sable Boulevard Wednesday night—the fourth similar crash reported in just three weeks. The incident happened around 9:15 p.m., and homeowner Horace Tolliver said it sounded like a thunderclap. Instead, it was a 2006 Dodge Ram plowing through his property with such force that it shoved another vehicle into his garage and family room, creating a large hole.

Tolliver, who’s lived in the area for 17 years, said this is the latest in a long pattern of dangerous incidents on his block. Over the years, he’s had three vehicles totaled and replaced four mailboxes. “I’m shocked, but not surprised,” he said. “This kind of thing keeps happening.”

Aurora police say the 23-year-old driver, Ever Alberto Vargas-Araujo, was suspected of driving under the influence and has been cited for DUI, careless driving, and not having proof of insurance. Tolliver recalled seeing the driver climb out of the wreckage after initially showing no signs of movement.

Frustrated residents say they’ve contacted city officials repeatedly, asking for safety upgrades like barriers, traffic calming devices, or speed enforcement. So far, they say, nothing has changed. With crashes continuing to pose a risk to homes and lives, the neighborhood is demanding immediate action.
