Thousands of Eggs Spill on I-70 After Aurora Semi Crash

A semitruck loaded with cartons of eggs overturned early Monday morning on westbound Interstate 70 between Tower Road and Airport Boulevard in Aurora, leaving a messy—and slippery—scene for commuters and cleanup crews. The crash occurred around 12:30 a.m. after the driver reportedly swerved to avoid traffic suddenly braking ahead and struck a pole, according to the Aurora Police Department.

The truck, operated on behalf of Pete & Gerry’s Organic Eggs, was en route with a shipment from the New Hampshire-based supplier when the crash occurred. “The safety and well-being of everyone connected to our work… is our top priority,” the company said in a statement, adding that it is thankful the driver sustained only minor injuries and no one else was harmed. The driver was transported to a nearby hospital as a precaution.

SkyFOX aerial footage showed egg cartons and packaging materials scattered across multiple lanes of the interstate. Although the total number of eggs lost remains unknown, the crash caused significant delays throughout the morning. As of 11 a.m., only one westbound lane of I-70 was open while crews removed debris and towed the semitruck’s tractor, which had been separated from the trailer.

Cleanup efforts are ongoing, and drivers are urged to use alternate routes while the scene is cleared and the investigation continues.
