Bandimere Eyes New Drag Strip in Weld County Following Morrison Speedway Closure

After 66 years of thrilling drag races, Bandimere Speedway in Morrison closed its gates for good last October. However, the Bandimere family’s racing legacy is far from over. On May 22, John Bandimere Jr. announced plans for a new drag strip in Weld County, near Hudson, Colorado, aiming to rekindle the excitement that defined the original speedway.

The family revealed that they had secured a 116-acre property along the Interstate 76 Frontage Road, previously known as the Rocky’s Auto site. This location, currently zoned for agriculture, is the first step in a complex process involving zoning changes and annexation. The Bandimere family acknowledged that this journey has not been quick or easy, but they remain committed to seeing the project through.

Hudson residents are largely supportive of the plan. “I think it’s a great idea and opportunity for the town of Hudson and this whole area,” said local Brian Welsh. Another resident, Issac Diaz, shared the excitement: “It’s a good thing and I can say exciting, too? Why not?”

The original Bandimere Speedway on Hogback Mountain closed on October 18, 2024, but the family promised it wasn’t the end. In a social media post, they confirmed the Weld County plans, expressing gratitude for the community’s support and outlining their faith-driven approach to this next chapter.

While the timeline for breaking ground remains uncertain, the Bandimeres are determined to keep their family’s drag racing legacy alive and roaring in Weld County.
