Colorado Officials Respond to U.S. Bombing of Iranian Nuclear Sites
Colorado’s political leaders offered a wide range of reactions following President Donald Trump’s announcement that the U.S. had carried out airstrikes on three nuclear sites in Iran Saturday evening. Trump called the strikes a “spectacular military success” aimed at destroying Iran’s nuclear enrichment capabilities and stopping what he labeled the world’s top state sponsor of terrorism.
Governor Jared Polis said he had directed his public safety team to coordinate with federal and local partners to remain vigilant. Senator John Hickenlooper expressed concern about U.S. involvement, stating he supports preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons but opposes escalation without clear strategy or outcomes.
Members of Colorado’s congressional delegation were split, largely along party lines. Rep. Jason Crow accused Trump of overstepping his authority and called on Congress to reclaim control over military action. Reps. Brittany Pettersen and Diana DeGette both emphasized the need for Congressional approval before any act of war and urged a focus on diplomacy to avoid wider conflict.
Meanwhile, conservative figures like Jeff Crank and Rep. Gabe Evans praised the strikes as necessary to stop Iran’s nuclear ambitions and lauded the military for its execution. Rep. Jeff Hurd echoed their sentiments, emphasizing the importance of American leadership and support for U.S. servicemembers.
