Del Taco Begins Reopening in Colorado After Sudden Closures Shocked Fans

In early 2025, 18 Del Taco locations across Colorado abruptly shut their doors, leaving loyal fans stunned and craving answers. The closures came without warning, triggered by the collapse of Newport Ventures—the franchisee that had been operating all 18 restaurants. Their contract with Del Taco was terminated due to $125,000 in unpaid franchise development fees and accusations of neglecting customer health and safety standards. Shortly after, Newport Ventures filed for bankruptcy, shuttering every one of its locations across the state.

The closure left just a single Del Taco open in Colorado, located in Grand Junction and operated by a different franchise owner. At the time, Del Taco issued a statement promising that the temporarily closed restaurants in Denver and Colorado Springs would eventually return. While it sounded like a hopeful PR line at the time, it seems they meant it.

Fast-forward to this summer, and the comeback is officially underway. A recent customer email confirmed what fans had been hoping for: “The rumors are true… your Front Range Del Tacos are re-opening.” Locations are already beginning to unlock their doors again, with the Firestone restaurant reopening on June 24 and reports from customers on social media confirming the Lone Tree location is also back in business.

The news is especially exciting for Del Taco devotees, many of whom still consider it one of the best fast-food taco chains in the country. Back in 2022, Thrillist named Del Taco the Best Fast Food Taco in America, and the brand remains the second-largest Mexican quick-service chain in the U.S.

Though there’s no official timeline for all 18 locations to reopen, the recent developments suggest a broader rollout may be underway. For Colorado taco lovers, the return of Del Taco is more than just a bite of nostalgia—it’s a sign that one of their favorite late-night stops is once again part of the local landscape.
