Colorado Teens Say Baskin-Robbins Paychecks Are Bouncing: “It’s Really Not OK”

More Colorado teens are coming forward with claims that their paychecks from Denver-area Baskin-Robbins locations are bouncing, leaving them frustrated, unpaid, and questioning their place in the workforce.

19-year-old Darlene Enochs, who works at the Baskin-Robbins at 120th and Colorado Boulevard, said she received multiple paychecks that were returned due to insufficient funds. “It’s making me question, do I want to stay in the fast food industry?” Enochs told FOX31. She also claims the checks that didn’t bounce were still short of what she had earned.

She’s not alone. Parents like Brittani Garcia are also sounding the alarm. Garcia said her 16-year-old daughter hasn’t been paid since June 5 from the Baskin-Robbins at 84th and Federal Boulevard. “To know they could be treated like this—it’s just a bummer. I don’t want her to go into the workforce thinking this is how it’s going to be forever,” she said.

Audrina Hurtado, another young employee, says she’s still waiting to be paid and worries future checks will bounce too. “It’s going to be the worry of is that it’s going to happen again,” she said.

Reports are coming in from other locations as well, including stores in Firestone and Evergreen. One 16-year-old employee has allegedly gone unpaid despite accumulating over $1,000 in earnings. Lori Marcin said her son Nick decided to quit after broken promises from the franchisee. “They keep making promises that you will be paid… none of it ever comes to fruition,” said Marcin. “It just made me really, really angry that this is his first experience of having a job.”

As complaints pile up, there’s no word yet from the franchise owner on when—or if—the payment issues will be resolved. For now, families say they’re left with nothing but frustration and unpaid bills.
