F-16 fighter jets are set to light up Colorado skies this Fourth of July as part of a statewide celebration of independence. The Colorado Air National Guard’s 140th Wing will launch F-16C Fighting Falcons from Buckley Space Force Base in Aurora beginning around 10:30 a.m. on Friday, with flyovers planned across communities from the Denver metro to the Western Slope. The flights are expected to wrap up by 12:30 p.m., weather permitting.

Residents across Colorado can expect a thunderous salute from the sky, with scheduled flyovers at the following events:

  • 11:00 a.m. – Westminster City Park (Westminster 4th of July Celebration)

  • 11:02 a.m. – Miner’s Park (Firestone 4th)

  • 11:14 a.m. – Main Street (Wellington 4th of July Parade)

  • 11:24 a.m. – Agate Street (Granby 4th of July Parade)

  • 11:39 a.m. – Elk & 5th Ave. (Crested Butte 4th of July)

  • 11:45 a.m. – Redstone Boulevard (Redstone Parade)

  • 12:00 p.m. – Colorado Avenue (Telluride Parade)

  • 12:03 p.m. – Silverton Memorial Park (All Get Together Event)

  • 12:07 p.m. – Main Street (Rico Parade)

  • 12:12 p.m. – Buckley Park (Durango Independence Day)

Col. Carrie Worrell called it a fitting tribute to freedom: “You’ll likely hear our ‘sound of freedom’ before you see us.” Even if you’re not attending one of the official events, keep your eyes on the skies—these jets will be streaking across much of the state. As always, weather may affect timing.
