Weld County Jail Deputy Arrested After Alleged Sexual Misconduct With Inmate
A Weld County detention deputy is facing serious charges after being accused of engaging in sexual activity with an inmate while on duty. Jacob Golden, 30, was arrested Tuesday on two felony counts of sexual conduct in a correctional facility by an employee. According to the Weld County Sheriff’s Office, the incident allegedly occurred between July 12 and July 14 at the Weld County Jail in Greeley, Colorado.
Authorities were made aware of the misconduct on July 15 after another inmate reported the incident to a different deputy. An internal investigation was launched immediately, leading to Golden’s arrest before his next scheduled shift. Golden, who has worked at the jail for about four years and is certified by the Peace Officer Standards and Training Board (POST), has been placed on unpaid administrative leave pending both criminal and internal investigations.
The sheriff’s office released a strongly worded statement condemning Golden’s actions: “People expect to be able to trust law enforcement. The actions of Deputy Golden are unacceptable and disturbing to the conscience. The Sheriff’s Office took swift action to ensure that this incident is properly investigated.”
Golden was booked and issued a $20,000 cash or surety bond on Tuesday afternoon and released from custody on Wednesday evening. The Weld County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that the case remains under active investigation, and additional charges could be possible depending on what further evidence is uncovered.
This case underscores growing concerns nationwide over misconduct within correctional facilities, especially when it involves those in positions of power. The Sheriff’s Office emphasized its commitment to transparency and accountability as it continues to investigate the matter.
