A tragic collision in southeast Denver claimed the life of a pedestrian Friday night near the intersection of East Iliff Avenue and South Parker Road, where the Denver and Aurora city boundaries meet. The incident occurred around 9:15 p.m., according to a statement released by the Denver Police Department on social media.

Officers responded to the scene and initially reported that the pedestrian had sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a local hospital. Unfortunately, the victim later succumbed to those injuries and was pronounced dead.

Authorities have not yet released the name or age of the pedestrian, pending notification of next of kin.

The driver involved in the crash remained at the scene and has been cooperating fully with investigators. Police have not indicated whether drugs, alcohol, or speed were factors in the crash, but said the investigation remains ongoing.

The intersection, a busy and often congested stretch connecting major thoroughfares, has been the site of previous traffic incidents. Community members and local leaders have raised concerns in the past about pedestrian safety in the area, especially during nighttime hours.

As the investigation continues, the Denver Police Department is asking any witnesses or individuals with dashcam footage of the incident to come forward to help piece together exactly what led to the fatal crash. Updates will be shared once available.
