Reckless Motorcyclist Taken Down by Pueblo Police Amid Surge in Rider Fatalities

The Pueblo Police Department released dramatic video footage showing officers tackling and arresting a motorcyclist engaged in reckless behavior on the city’s south side. The arrest was part of a targeted effort by the department to curb dangerous street stunts and reduce motorcycle-related fatalities, which have reached record highs in Colorado.

The incident began after multiple reports came into dispatchers about a group of three motorcyclists performing dangerous stunts on Northern Avenue. Officers from the Directed Investigation and Community Engagement (DICE) unit located the group and followed them, capturing dashcam footage of the bikers standing on their seats, performing wheelies, and weaving in and out of traffic lanes — at times blocking both lanes entirely.

As the riders approached the intersection of Pueblo Boulevard and West Northern Avenue, officers prepared for a takedown. When the light turned red, police used the opportunity to exit their vehicle and grab the last rider in the group, pulling him off his motorcycle and placing him in handcuffs. The other two riders immediately sped away from the scene.

Body camera footage shows officers telling the arrested rider they had video evidence of his actions. “We’ve got you doing stupid stuff,” one officer says in the video. The rider, visibly shaken, replies, “I’m sorry.” His motorcycle was later towed from the scene.

The department emphasized that the video was released to raise awareness about the risks of stunt riding and discourage others from engaging in similar behavior. “Motorcycle fatalities in Colorado reached an all-time high last year, with 165 motorcyclists losing their lives — accounting for nearly 25% of all traffic deaths,” PPD stated. “Since 2015, motorcycle deaths have risen 57%.”

With the summer riding season in full swing, Pueblo police are urging riders to prioritize safety and obey traffic laws to prevent further tragedies on Colorado roads.
