Denver Zoo Welcomes Two Rocky Mountain Bighorn Lambs
The Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance is celebrating the arrival of two Rocky Mountain bighorn lambs, born earlier this month to first-time mothers Amber and Violet. According to the zoo, both lambs are healthy and adapting well. Violet’s lamb is already thriving with the herd on West Sheep Mountain, while Amber’s lamb has overcome a difficult start and is now doing much better.
As Colorado’s state animal, the birth of these lambs holds special significance. The Centennial State is home to the world’s largest population of Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep, typically found scaling the rugged cliffs of central and western Colorado.
Visitors can find the bighorn sheep exhibit in the zoo’s “Into the Wild” area, near the Rocky Mountain goat exhibit and the Helen and Arthur E. Johnson Animal Hospital. The Denver Zoo is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
