Denver Broncos Win Emmy for 1977 Throwback Uniform Launch Video
The Denver Broncos have added an Emmy to their trophy case—not for a play on the field, but for a cinematic tribute to the past. The team won a 2025 Heartland Emmy Award in the sports promotion category for their video unveiling the 1977-inspired “Orange Crush” throwback uniforms.
Originally released in 2024 following the launch of their first new primary uniforms in two decades, the Emmy-winning video captured fans’ nostalgia with a creative, time-travel storyline. It begins with cornerback Patrick Surtain II driving a classic Ford Bronco through Denver. After entering a vintage shop, Surtain finds himself transported back to the 1970s, where he meets Broncos legend Randy Gradishar. The scene transitions into current players donning the new retro uniforms, mixed with clips from the original 1977 season.
The nearly two-minute video resonated widely, and its production team—including Surtain, Gradishar, and several Broncos media staffers like Austin Brink, Hailey Sullivan, and Aaron Gunning—were honored for their work. Additional Emmy wins went to the Broncos’ media team for the special “Super Bowl XXXIII: Back-to-Back,” the “1977 Broncos Throwback Team Open,” and a video for the primary uniform launch.
The award-winning campaign brought a powerful mix of nostalgia and innovation, reminding fans why the Orange Crush era still holds strong in Denver’s sports legacy.
