NBA Coach Chauncey Billups and Player Terry Rozier Arrested in Federal Gambling Investigation
Portland Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups and Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier were arrested Thursday morning in connection with separate federal gambling investigations, according to law enforcement officials.
The FBI confirmed that former NBA player Damon Jones was also taken into custody in Las Vegas as part of the probe.
Billups, a five-time NBA All-Star and 2024 Basketball Hall of Fame inductee, was arrested in Portland. The 17-year NBA veteran — best known for leading the Detroit Pistons to the 2004 NBA Championship and earning Finals MVP honors — is now at the center of a rapidly developing federal case.
Rozier, a 10-year veteran currently with the Miami Heat, was arrested in Orlando, Florida. Reports suggest federal agents had been monitoring suspicious betting activity involving games he participated in over the past several months.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Brooklyn and FBI Director Kash Patel are expected to hold a press conference later today to discuss the scope of the investigation.
Meanwhile, Damon Jones, 49, who played for 10 NBA teams including the Cleveland Cavaliers, was taken into custody by FBI agents in Las Vegas. Officials have not released details on the charges or whether the three arrests are directly connected.
An FBI spokesperson in Las Vegas declined to comment further, saying more information will be made public following the scheduled press conference.
