Man Accused of Stealing Mountain Shuttle and Barreling Down I-70 Taken Into Custody
A Colorado man accused of swiping a public shuttle bus and tearing down Interstate 70 in a dangerous late-night rampage has been arrested, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.
Authorities say 30-year-old Jared Brooks was taken into custody early Friday and now faces a long list of charges — including four counts of attempted first-degree murder — tied to his chaotic Oct. 10 joyride.
Investigators released surveillance footage earlier this week showing the beginning of his alleged crime spree, when Brooks reportedly jumped behind the wheel of a Clear Creek County Roundabout shuttle bus. From there, police say he plowed the stolen vehicle straight through an active crash scene near Idaho Springs, coming dangerously close to CDOT crews and emergency responders working on the highway.
Brooks was ultimately tracked down and arrested at a home on Osage Street in downtown Denver, ending what authorities describe as a reckless and life-threatening string of events.
