Homicide Suspect Arrested After Police Pursuit Through Aurora and Denver

A late-night traffic stop in Aurora turned into a high-speed pursuit that ended with the arrest of a homicide suspect early Sunday morning. Just after midnight, officers attempted to stop a vehicle near East 13th Place and North Uvalda Court for driving without a license plate. Instead of pulling over, the driver sped away, prompting officers to pursue the vehicle, which they suspected might be stolen.

The driver fled through Aurora and into Denver, driving recklessly while officers attempted to stop the vehicle using a PIT maneuver. The first two attempts were unsuccessful, but a third maneuver finally forced the car to stop. At that point, both the driver and passenger jumped out of the vehicle and tried to flee on foot.

After a brief chase, officers arrested the driver, identified as 25-year-old Isaiah Easley. Investigators later discovered that Easley had an active felony warrant for homicide and was being sought by the Department of Corrections Fugitive Extradition Unit. Officers also recovered a loaded handgun near the vehicle.

Police say the passenger had reportedly asked the driver to let him out of the car so he could surrender, but the driver refused and continued fleeing. Because of that, Easley now faces an additional charge of second-degree kidnapping.

Easley is currently being held without bond and faces multiple charges, including vehicular eluding, second-degree kidnapping, possession of a weapon by a previous offender, and obstruction. According to authorities, Easley also has a lengthy criminal history that includes false reporting, theft, weapons offenses, drug violations, distribution of controlled substances, and assault with a deadly weapon.

The passenger was issued a summons after the incident, though he reportedly told officers he “wasn’t trying to do anything illegal.”

Police say the case highlights how routine traffic stops can lead to the capture of serious suspects. What began as a simple stop for a missing license plate ultimately resulted in the arrest of a man wanted for homicide.
