Caught on Camera: Thief Makes Multiple Trips With Bike and Kid’s Wagon to Steal Tools in Denver
Construction workers in Denver are asking for the public’s help after thousands of dollars in tools were stolen from a job site earlier this week. According to a report by Fox31, the theft happened early Wednesday morning near 45th Avenue and Vrain Street, where surveillance cameras captured a suspect making multiple trips to haul away equipment.
Martin Miller, a project manager with TK Morrison Construction, said reviewing the footage was frustrating. The video shows the suspect arriving on a bicycle, cutting through a lock on the site’s fencing, and entering the property. The person then began loading hand tools, drills, saws and other equipment onto the bike before leaving the area.
But the suspect wasn’t finished.
Surveillance video shows the individual returning later, this time with a child’s red wagon, to carry away even more equipment. At one point the wagon nearly collapsed when a wheel appeared ready to fall off, but the suspect continued loading tools, including a tile saw.
The stolen equipment belongs to the workers themselves, which makes the loss even more painful. Miller said many construction workers pay for their own tools out of pocket, and replacing them can be a major financial hit.
Beyond the cost, the theft also slowed down progress on the project, forcing workers to spend time replacing tools before they could continue the job.
Miller says incidents like this have become increasingly common at construction sites and hopes someone in the community recognizes the suspect from the video. Anyone with information is asked to contact TK Morrison Construction at 720-466-1686.
