Thursday Blaze Leaves City Park Jazz Stage a Total Loss
A beloved piece of Denver history has been left in ruins after a fire tore through the bandstand at City Park early Thursday morning.
Flames broke out around 2:30 a.m., and by sunrise, the iconic structure near Ferril Lake was still standing—but heavily damaged. Support columns, the roof, and much of the structure were burned, leaving what organizers are calling a “total loss.” The bandstand, originally built in 1929 and often referred to as the City Park Bandshell, has long served as the centerpiece for the city’s popular summer concert series.
Leaders with City Park Jazz say they’re stunned by the destruction but determined to move forward. Plans are already underway to rebuild, while organizers also explore backup options to keep this summer’s concert season alive—potentially using temporary stages and revised layouts within the park.
Authorities, including Denver police and fire investigators, are still working to determine what caused the fire. In the meantime, community groups tied to the park and concert series have begun fundraising efforts to help restore the historic venue and ensure the music continues despite the setback.
