Families Flee, Tables Left Behind: Deadly Easter Park Shooting Leaves Community Shaken
A peaceful Easter gathering in northeast Denver turned deadly Sunday evening when gunfire erupted at Russell Square Park in the Cole neighborhood. According to the Denver Police Department, officers responded to reports of shots fired around 6 p.m. near the 3600 block of North Vine Street, where dozens of families had gathered, including many children. Two people were rushed to the hospital, and by Monday, a woman had died from her injuries as investigators continued searching for a suspect.
Neighbors told FOX31 they heard more than 20 shots ring out, sending crowds scrambling for safety and leaving behind tables of food and an abandoned Easter celebration. Witnesses described a suspicious vehicle circling the park before the shooting, with a masked individual reportedly leaning out of the car shortly before gunfire began.
The sudden violence has left families shaken, with some saying the incident has changed how safe they feel gathering in public spaces. Police have not yet released suspect information and are asking anyone with details to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867.
