10 Colorado Stereotypes That Are Completely Accurate

Colorado. Home of the Rockies, Coors Brewery, and world-famous resorts like Vail and Aspen. Despite all these things that make it seem like Colorado is a laid back state to live in, Coloradans will always be Coloradans at heart (you can’t take them out of Colorado). There are 10 stereotypes about colorados that will make you laugh – even if you’re not one!

1. Everyone In Colorado Puts Their Team On A Mile High Pedestal

With Denver being one of the few cities in America to have a professional football, basketball, baseball, and hockey team, expect fans in Colorado to be everywhere. Sure, the Broncos fans are patiently waiting for the team to return to the dominance they had during the Elway era, and the Rockies fans are really having their commitment tested as of late, but the saying “once a Denver sports fan, always a Denver sports fan” is definitely the case.

2. Folks In Colorado Recognize The Two Most Important Food Groups: Barley And Hops

Coloradans lovecraft beer. With over 200 craft breweries in the state, Colorado is also home to the Great American Beer festival, attracting breweries around the country with over 3,000 beers to try over 3 days. Colorado has multiple cities that appear on “Men’s Health’s” Drunkest Cities in America list, with Colorado Springs, Denver, and Aurora making the top 25. But with so much good beer around, really, who can blame them?

3. Coloradoans Never Leave Home Without Their Canine Companions

Dogs are everywhere, often unleashed calmly walking alongside their owner. It’s not uncommon to see dogs on hiking trails, on the ski slopes, or even at your favorite bar. People in Colorado love their furry pals and treat them like best friends. Take Colorado Springs, for example. The Springs is home to around 61,000 dogs. With so many active residents and so many things to do, Colorado is basically doggy heaven.

4. Everyone In Colorado Has A Little Bit Of Hippie In Them

And by no means is that a bad thing. Colorado has tons of laidback people that are all really friendly. It’s been said it’s the perfect blend of Midwestern friendliness and the chill attitude of the West Coast. There are tons of awesome concerts at amazing venues like Red Rocks Amphitheatre, a ton of “all natural” and healthier food options compared to the rest of America, and everyone takes care of the environment around them. No one litters, everyone looks out for each other, and it’s more common to befriend a wandering traveler than to see a bar fight. To some, Colorado is the state of peace, drugs, and rock ’n’ roll, and most of the residents have no problem embracing that.

5. Coloradoans Are Practically Born With Skis On

Skiing isn’t just a sport in Colorado, it’s a lifestyle. Whether someone skis, snowboards, or just chills by the slopes, every Coloradoan knows there’s nothing like a ski town in the winter months. Most other states can’t wait for the summer so that they can escape to their favorite beach, a Coloradoan can’t wait for winter so that they can escape to their favorite mountain.

6. They Also Come Out Of The Womb Wearing A Fit Bit

Just because the snow eventually melts, doesn’t mean a Coloradoan stops moving. While every Coloradoan ski or snowboards, they’re also doing several other sports on a regular basis during the summer months. Whether its rock climbing, biking, or hiking, it’s strange to meet someone that doesn’t enjoy spending a lot of time with Mother Nature. With so much beauty all around Coloradans, it’s no surprise they have no problem staying active.

7. Coloradoan Closets All Looks Like Sporting Goods Stores

Sure not every part of Colorado is mountainous—especially the Kansas side of the state—but that being said, a lot of people in Colorado still tend to act like they’re mountain men. Beards and flannel are common sights, especially the closer you get to the slopes. Everyone’s got some sort of way to transport their equipment to the nearest hill, whether it’s an all-wheel drive SUV or a Subaru Outback with ski racks. It’s common to see people walking around town during the day in full winter gear, with boots and heavy coats, or looking like they just came back from a long hike. It’s a side effect of everyone being so obsessed with doing outdoorsy things and a constant reminder of why Colorado is so unique.

8. Coloradoans Would Eat A Tire If It Were Smothered In Green Chilies

Every Coloradoan loves green chilies, even if they aren’t getting them at their favorite Mexican place. It’s completely common to see the words “smothered in green chili” as an option after burgers, pizza, and a variety of appetizers. The best part, is that most of the green chili sauce is homemade every day at a lot of the restaurants. While this means that one day might be a little spicier than another, that’s a risk everyone from the Rocky Mountain State is willing to take.

9. Every Coloradoan Knows The Real Smoky Mountains Aren’t In Tennessee

It’s not shock that in recent months Colorado has picked up the stereotype across the nation of being the “land of the stoners.” Whenever a Coloradoan reveals they’re from Colorado to someone out-of-state, it almost always come with a subtle wink hinting at recent marijuana legalization as if it’s some sort of secret. While everyone in Colorado doesn’t smoke, marijuana is quickly becoming a larger part of the Colorado culture.

10. Coloradoans Are All High… On Life

But who wouldn’t be in such a great state. With endless opportunities to stay active, drink good drinks, and eat good food, Colorado is the perfect place to spend your days happy. In fact, Colorado regularly ranks in the top 10 states in the nation when it comes to overall satisfaction. Of course, when picturesque postcard views are never far away, it’s hard not to crack a smile. Did we miss anything? Tell us what you think of Colorado in the comments below!
