In 2021, the Colorado Avalanche will be looking to make a comeback after a tough 2020 season. The team is going through some major changes this offseason and we’re here to share our thoughts on what’s next for them
Some Pick Ups
*Signing of young talent like Alex Tuch and Matt Duchene to new large contracts *Trades that bring in top draft picks with the hopes of drafting a star player or two. *New goalies drafted into the system, along with some who are just now entering their prime years for this franchise.New coaching staff and a veteran system that is looking to teach the youth of this team how it’s done.
This franchise is going to be looking to rebound and make some serious waves in the next few seasons.
Avalanche Analysis
So, let’s do it. Let’s start off with our goaltending situation because this is something that has been a mystery for quite some time. Will Semyon Varlamov be back? Who will the Avalanche bring in to battle him out for starts? And who will win each game they play? Well, I think there are two things we know about goalies: you can’t predict them and if you want your goalie to perform well then keep him happy – whether that means playing him or not playing him at all times.
I’m guessing 20-year old Spencer Martin takes over as starter next season which leaves Varly on the bench until he gets traded somewhere elsewhere he gets more of an opportunity to shine. Martin was really impressive in the ECHL last year so there’s no reason not to think he can’t be a starter at some level. That being said, I’m sure the Avalanche would rather have him as an NRI this season and play often but it doesn’t look like that will happen if Varly is back.
Blizzard Or Bust
The Colorado Avalanche are entering their first full season with the new owner, Andrew Barroway. The team has had a rough go of it lately, not making the playoffs since 2015-2016 when they made it to game seven in round two against Anaheim.
